7th grade Title I students each chose a daredevil from the Top 20 Daredevil book. Students then chunked the reading into sections. After reading a section, students used the Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then (SWBST) strategy to summarize the section. The summary was written on a post-it note and placed in the book. When their chosen daredevil chapter was finished, all post-it notes were placed in order on notebook paper. Students then arranged the information into an essay. After a self-edit, a peer reviewed and made edit suggestions. The students revised their essay and then set down for a teacher edit. A final copy was typed into a word document for a publisher’s edit.
