This year the 3rd grade students at St. Elizabeth have been working hard learning math. They have learned multiplication, division, time, and many other skills, but their favorite so far is fractions! This is definitely because of the new resources and manipulatives they have. In this lesson, they were to use fraction tiles to help learn the concept of equivalent fractions. They broke the tile pieces up (so many pieces!) and were quick to realize they should be labeled. The students labeled the fractions by counting the parts that make the whole. This was a lesson in itself! After, they completed Lesson 38 Matty’s Mosaics. They lined up fraction tiles to determine if the fractions were equivalent. The fraction tiles made their learning more concrete and definitely more fun!
