Students in 4th grade at Holy Cross in Kansas City have been reading fables and folktales. They learned that these tales have been passed down from generation to generation by telling stories in their native country. This tale is from the Ashanti people. Fables are stories that are short and teach a lesson. Most fables are with animals that act like humans. The Ashanti people were from formally known as Gold Coast, which is now known as Ghana. Students had to think about the important parts of the story. They had to identify the characters, setting, problem, and solution/how the problem was solved. As a class, we filled out the story map. The students filled out the solution by themselves. They also had to provide the lesson learned from the story into their solution.
