Mrs. Grattan’s 4th Grade math class at St. Raphael had a great day of hands-on, inquiry-based math calculation this week! The students were working on factors and multiples along with prime and composite numbers. Some of the numbers were larger, meaning they didn’t automatically know the factors, so they used counters to solve. Figuring out how to accurately use the counters was a lesson, too. The group worked with partners to solve, then presented their answers to the group. They really enjoyed the activity and were able to visualize the way the numbers looked when evenly divided into groups. Additionally, it was fun being able to manipulate the counters as needed to find the correct answer.
