Mrs. Butler’s 3rds graders at Agape Academy in St. Louis, MO have been working on place value and identifying which number is greater or less than using the symbols.
The objective of this lesson was for students to manipulate numbers to make the largest or smallest number. For example, you can see students rolling the dice, then ordering each number from largest to smallest (rolling an 4, 8, and 5 would be written as 854) and once their partner (part of our me, we, two, you) rolls, students are to compare the numbers and use the appropriate sign.
Students were excited to work with different manipulatives and they did a wonderful job not only making larger or smaller numbers and compare, but explain why a number is larger or smaller which is as the extension exit ticket. Way to go kiddos!
