The 7th graders at Holy Cross in Kansas City read the book “Ice Cream Adventures” by Jordan D. Brown. This book is about how ice cream has evolved throughout the years. It all started with two men named Ben and Jerry. These men wanted to create different and exciting ice cream flavors. Students learned that it takes creativity an perseverance to become successful with inventive ice cream flavors. Some of the flavors created were very popular, while others were not. The future of ice cream is also mentioned by using the process of liquid nitrogen. This process freezes the liquid or cream instantly creating rolled ice cream. After reading, students were asked to create their own ice cream flavor. They had to use an ice cream “base” such as vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry. The rest of the ice cream flavors were up to them! Maybe their flavors could be on the shelf someday.
