Second and third grade students read a very interesting book entitled “All About Redwood Trees.” We had a lesson on understanding facts and opinions. The students took the information they learned about facts and opinions and applied the skills to the book they had just read. The students participated with a partner to correctly locate acts and state opinions about redwood trees. They discussed their ideas and together came up with a list of the facts and opinions they found most interesting. Finally, each group shared their ideas with the class. The students were enthusiastic about the “learning experience” as they worked together.
